A Conversation with Olivia

On Thursday, I brought home a few mini chocolate donuts from my Grandma's house. Hoping Olivia wouldn't notice them, I casually tossed the baggie onto the kitchen counter. Olivia did notice...

Olivia: Chocolate donuts peez.
Me: We have chocolate donuts? Where? I don't see any chocolate donuts.
Olivia: Right there! (Pointing to the kitchen counter where I threw them, behind a box
of baggies.)
Me: You think you need a chocolate donut for snack?
Olivia: Yes peez.
Me: Well we better ask Papa and see if you have been good today.

So Olivia takes off, looking for Papa and shouting out his name, sounding something like this,
"Papa! Chocolate donuts peez! Papa!"

She finally finds him, and I encourage her to ask Papa if she can have a donut for a snack.

Olivia: Papa,
Papa: Yes, Olivia?
Olivia: Chocolate donuts peez.
Papa: You want chocolate donuts?
Olivia: Yes peez.
Papa: Why do you want chocolate donuts?
Olivia: They taste good.

Chris and I proceed to smile and giggle. How do you argue with "They taste good" when you know it to be so true!?

Dull winter

I've been racking my brain to figure out something new to post on the blog...well not much new is going on. It has been a dreary winter, so we haven't played outside. We've gone back to a few of our favorite spots to play (the Children's Museum and Play World), but I'm sure you don't want to see more pictures of that. We've just been playing at home or with friends. I guess I have to look for more Kodak moments in our day. :) Olivia has been leading us in grace whenever we eat, so I do want to catch that on video and post for all of you to see. I think it is rather adorable. And don't worry, I'll post the translation since you may not understand everything she is saying. We have been pretty busy though, for those of you who may not have heard, I am working on my paperwork to become licensed to do home day care. So I am getting my packet in order and we're moving some things around in the house to make room for the day care. We just painted one of the rooms upstairs and moved the computer out of the toy room and into an official office. Next, we're going to paint the toy room and make a few modifications. Hopefully that will be done soon. All of the are good changes and I am excited about it. I guess that brings you up to speed on the Fleck Family. Hopefully, we'll have more Kodak moments in our day so I can post some new pictures. Take care and God Bless.

An explanation...

Back in December, I ran into a college friend of mine at my mom's work Christmas party. She was giving me a hard time that I hadn't updated our blog since Halloween. I gave her a nervous laugh and promised that I would remedy that over the weekend. Well that "weekend" turned into 3 weeks...Sorry Jackie! As with any family, we got caught up in the hub-bub of the holidays, parties, birthdays, and other obligations. It's not that nothing was going on, I was just too tired to do any writing by the time I had the time. So I've done a massive update as to what had been going on over the past 2 months. I hope you enjoy the update.

Happy 2nd Birthday Olivia Continued...

Our little lady didn't get to celebrate her birthday just once. Oh no, she got to celebrate it with 2 birthday parties! On the 27th we had a party for her at my mom and dad's house. My family was there along with her Godparents. She had so much fun, especially when it came to opening presents...again....

"Bring on the presents!"

"Oh....look at the pretty clothes..."

"Hmmm....wonder what could be in here?"

And yes, that is a dump truck for Olivia. It isn't a mistake! :) Aunt Anne is going to teach Olivia that there is more to life than pink, Barbies and dolls, and everything girly. Not that Anne is against these things, she just wants to be sure her niece is well rounded!

On the 29th, we had a second party for Olivia at our house. Chris's family came to celebrate with us along with Grandma Linda and Grandpa Bob (our neighbors who are family).

Think she is enjoying the cake?

"Yeah whatever Papa...you just keep reading that card. I want to know what is in the box!"

Olivia received a puzzle with feet on it. She was under the impression it was a place for HER foot!

I just love the look on her face as she opened this...
Chris and I have been joking that she is going to go through present withdrawl. She got to open presents (whether Christmas or birthday) for 6 days! I'm waiting to hear her say..."Open presents?"

Happy 2nd Birthday Olivia!

On Olivia's birthday, we took her to Red Robin for a special birthday lunch. Usually when they come sing to the birthday person, they also bring them a sundae. We knew there was no way Olivia would eat the sundae (she didn't even finish her lunch) and Chris and I were so stuffed from our burgers that we knew we wouldn't be able to eat it either. So we asked our waitress just to bring Olivia a balloon when they came to sing to her. She just loved it...the balloon, the singing, basically being the center of attention!

2 Year/Christmas Pictures

Here are Olivia's 2 Year pictures that Chris took. I just love how they turned out...

Our Family Christmas

This year our family had a first, we celebrated Christmas with just the 3 of us on Christmas Day. What a joyous experience. After we went to Mass in the morning, we came home and each of us got back into our jammies for the rest of the day. It was so much fun spending Christmas Day with just our daughter! We knew from the beginning that we weren't going to rush the day. If it took Olivia all day to open her presents, that was fine with us. If she wanted to play with each toy that she opened, that was fine with us. We had no set schedule and it was wonderful!! Here are a few highlights from the day...

I love the look of surprise on her face even though she still doesn't know what the gift is! She will soon find out it is a school bus. For some reason, Olivia has a facination with school buses. So Santa put one in her stocking to play with.

I just couldn't resist getting Olivia this gift. It's hard to tell, but it is a potty seat, a lotion bottle, a pretend pack of wipes all for her baby. I attached a pack of "big girl" underwear. Guess what we're going to be working on!!

Seranading us with her microphone.

Loving her Bitty Baby and school bus.

"Say Cheese"!

You look mahvalous dahling!

So excited over clothes! That's my girl!!

Christmas with the Grandparents

Everyone always says that a child's first Christmas is always so much fun. While I agree with the sentiment, I would have to say that this Christmas I had WAY more fun watching Olivia open all of her gifts! Christmas for us started on the 23rd. We had Chris's family over this year and we had a really nice time having everyone here. Then on the 24th we celebrated Christmas with my family at my mom and dad's house. We had a great time there too. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from those two days.

Olivia showing Papa her present, but not quite wanting him to help.

However, she will share the bow with him!!

Olivia and her first game.

Grandpa Fleck bought Olivia a play house that she just loves! There are two parts to it, but the best part is that one half nests inside the other for space-saving storage! And no, Olivia isn't sleeping in this picture. She just thinks it is great having something she can go inside and lie down in.

I love the look of concentration. She looked like this with each gift she opened. She never wanted help though!

In this picture, Olivia is modeling 2 different presents. When she got her nightgown, she just had to put it on! Then Aunt Anne and Uncle Walter gave her a pair of boots (with another outfit) and Olivia just had to put those on too! I couldn't resist getting a picture of her in her boots and nightgown.

Molly (the dog) had to come over and check out Olvia's present too.

My mom is so creative....she gave Olivia a huge tote filled with dress up clothes! Liv couldn't wait to dive in and see what was inside. Lookin' good baby!

Visiting Santa

Christmas can't come without a visit to Santa Claus!! Well, OK it can, but Christmas wouldn't be complete without a visit to Santa! We took Olivia to see Santa again this year, but unfortunately our visit wasn't as successful as it was last year! She was excited to see him while we were waiting in line....

...but unfortunately when it was her turn to see him, she put the brakes on! It didn't matter how much coaxing I did or what I said, she would not sit on Santa's lap! Well God Bless Santa because he stood up to talk with Olivia, gave her a hat, and let us take a picture like this...

Yes, that is Olivia over my shoulder and Santa standing next to me.

We did manage to talk to Santa for a minute and she told him she wanted a ball for Christmas. Tough order to fill! I bet next year will be better.... :)
